Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Trauma-Informed Practice and Team Teach Training

At Care Assurance, we are committed to providing safe, nurturing, and empowering environments for adults aged 18 and over who may have experienced trauma, adversity, or other challenges in their lives. Our approach is grounded in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed care, ensuring that every person we support is understood as an individual, not defined by their behaviour or past experiences.

We recognise that behaviour is a form of communication. Our teams work to understand the meaning behind each person’s actions, supporting them to develop skills, confidence, and strategies that promote independence, wellbeing, and personal growth.

To ensure the highest standards of practice, Care Assurance has dedicated internal PBS Leads who provide specialist guidance, oversight, and mentoring to our staff teams. These leads support the consistent implementation of PBS principles, helping to develop individualised support plans that are proactive, compassionate, and person-centred.

All PBS Leads and support staff at Care Assurance complete Team Teach Level 2 training, a nationally recognised qualification accredited under the BILD ACT Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Standards.

This certification confirms that our staff have:

  • Undertaken accredited training delivered by Team Teach Ltd
  • Demonstrated competence in using positive, non-restrictive strategies to manage and reduce risk
  • Met the requirements of the BILD ACT RRN Standards accreditation scheme, promoting accountability, ethical practice, and restraint reduction

Our philosophy is clear: physical intervention is always a last resort, used only to maintain immediate safety and always in line with individualised support plans and relevant legislation. The focus of our training and day-to-day practice is on building trusting relationshipspreventing crisis situations, and reducing the need for restrictive practices altogether.

By combining PBS with trauma-informed approaches, we help individuals to feel safe, heard, and in control – empowering them to heal, grow, and achieve greater independence within their communities.
